Maintenance & Care Guide for Wooden Utensils and Bowls
Daily Use & Cleaning
Hand Wash Only – Always wash wooden utensils and bowls by hand using warm water and mild dish soap.
Avoid Soaking – Never leave wooden items submerged in water, as this can cause swelling, warping, or cracking.
Use a Soft Sponge – Avoid abrasive scrubbers that can scratch or wear down the finish.
Rinse & Dry Immediately – After washing, rinse thoroughly and dry immediately with a clean towel to prevent moisture absorption.
Air Dry Properly – Allow utensils and bowls to air dry completely before storing. Place them in an upright position or on a drying rack for proper airflow.
Deep Cleaning & Odor Removal
For Stubborn Residue: Scrub gently with a mixture of baking soda and water or a bit of coarse salt and lemon juice.
To Remove Odors: Rub with half a lemon or a paste made from baking soda and water, then rinse thoroughly.
Regular Maintenance & Conditioning
To keep wooden utensils and bowls in top condition, they need periodic conditioning:
Apply Food-Safe Oil – Every 3-4 weeks (or as needed), apply mineral oil, beeswax-based wood conditioner, or food-grade walnut or coconut oil to prevent drying and cracking.
How to Apply:
Wipe a small amount of oil onto the wood using a clean, lint-free cloth.
Let it sit for a few hours or overnight to absorb fully.
Wipe off any excess oil before using.
Avoid Vegetable Oils – Oils like olive or vegetable oil can turn rancid over time, causing unpleasant smells.
Storage Tips
Keep in a Dry Place – Store wooden utensils and bowls in a cool, dry environment.
Avoid Extreme Temperatures – Keep away from heat sources like stovetops and dishwashers, as extreme heat can cause wood to dry out and crack.
Allow Airflow – Store utensils in an open container rather than a sealed drawer to prevent trapped moisture.
What to Avoid
🚫 No Dishwasher – The high heat and prolonged moisture exposure will warp and crack wood.
🚫 No Microwave – wooden bowls and utensils should not be put in the microwave. Microwaving can cause them to warp, crack, or even catch fire.
🚫 No Harsh Chemicals – Avoid bleach, harsh detergents, or soaking in vinegar, as these can dry out and damage the wood.
🚫 No Prolonged Sun Exposure – Direct sunlight can cause fading and drying.
Restoring & Repairing
For Dry or Dull Wood – Sand lightly with fine-grit sandpaper and reapply food-safe oil.
For Small Cracks – Use a mixture of beeswax and mineral oil to fill and seal small cracks.
For Deep Scratches or Stains – Sand gently with fine sandpaper, wipe clean, and recondition with oil.
By following these care tips, your wooden utensils and bowls will remain durable, beautiful, and functional for years to come!
